Chapter One

Where It All Began

In the quiet village of Radawadunna, tucked within the lush interior of Sri Lanka, a tradition of cane weaving has been passed from hand to hand for generations. Local artisan families have been crafting durable, beautiful furniture long before modern mass-production changed the industry.

Ceylon Cane Crafts was founded to honour that tradition and to give it a future. We recognised that this centuries-old craft was at risk of being lost as younger generations moved toward industrialised work. By connecting skilled artisans with customers who appreciate handcrafted quality, we created a pathway for these skills to survive and thrive in the modern world.

The Origin

The Village of
Radawadunna

Radawadunna is not just an address. It is the soul of everything we make. Located in Sri Lanka's Western Province, the village is home to generations of skilled cane craftspeople. Raw materials are sourced from regions like Manampitiya in Sri Lanka and occasionally imported from Malaysia, then brought to our village where the real craft happens.

When you purchase a piece from Ceylon Cane Crafts, it was made here, in this village, by someone whose family has been doing this for decades. That is a story worth telling, and a connection worth making.

The People

Our Master Artisans

We collaborate with over 50 artisan families in and around Radawadunna. Our master craftspeople spend years developing the fine motor skills required to weave cane into the tight, uniform patterns that define our furniture's character.

Each piece leaves the workshop bearing the subtle signature of the person who made it: a slight variation in the weave pattern, a unique tightness in the binding, an imperceptible stamp of human presence. We believe this is not a flaw. It is the point.

“There are no shortcuts, no machines that can replicate what a skilled artisan produces with their hands.”

Our Principles

What We Stand For

Material Variety

We work with both natural and synthetic cane, with natural being our priority. Natural cane is ideal for indoor spaces, while synthetic cane offers weather-resistant options for any setting.

Craftsmanship

Every joint is hand-fitted. Every weave is hand-pulled. The difference between handcrafted and mass-produced is something you feel the moment you sit in the chair.

Built to Last

Every piece is finished with protective varnish and polish to guard against wood bugs and deliver the signature shine that cane furniture is known for. Built right, once.
